Warren Harper "Renny" Ide Jr. Obituary

January 16, 1948 – February 1, 2025

Retired U.S. Navy Captain Warren H. Ide, Jr., of Severna Park, MD, passed on February 1, 2025. He was a proud member of the 21st Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erica Marsh Ide and daughter, Alexis D. Richter.

He is survived by his children, Peter D. Ide, Elizabeth M. Ide, and William W. Ide; and grandchildren, Jack Richter, Andrew Ide, Natalie Ide, John Ide, and Juliana Ide.

After graduating from the US Naval Academy in 1970 and completing flight training, Capt. Ide was assigned to VAQ-131, stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. He deployed to Southeast Asia aboard USS Enterprise and later USS Constellation, successfully completing 85 combat missions. His first VAQ-131 deployment was the second combat deployment of the EA-6B Prowler and Ide flew the squadron’s first combat mission of that deployment.

After serving on the Admiral’s staff in San Diego, CA, Ide returned to NAS Whidbey and joined VAQ-137. He went on to attend the US Naval Test Pilot School at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland and upon graduating joined the Systems Engineering Test Directorate and became the Branch Head there. He then returned to USS Enterprise in Alameda, CA where he was the ship’s aircraft handler.

Once again he returned to NAS Whidbey as Executive Officer and then Commanding Officer of VAQ-133 and then on to command VAQ-129, attended and graduated US Naval War College, served as Commanding Officer, USS LaSalle and then Commodore of Phibron One as well as two tours at the Pentagon. He served his country with honor and distiction every step of the way for 30 years.

A funeral service will take place at the Old Post Chapel, Ft. Myer, VA with burial following at Arlington National Cemetery on July 29 2025. All attendees must be aware that:

1. All attendees must have their own transportation or ride with another attendee as you will be driving from the Old Post Chapel to the gravesite location. Arlington National Cemetery does not provide transportation and the cemetery has over 600 acres.

2. All attendees 16 years of age and older must have a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, student ID, etc).

3. Everyone should arrive at the Old Post Chapel by 9:45 AM. The security guards at Fort Myer's Hatfield gate will direct you to the Old Post Chapel. All vehicles should park in the Old Post Chapel parking lot.

4. Only 98 people are allowed in the Old Post Chapel, but there is no limit to the number of attendees at the graveside service in the cemetery itself.
